The Let Down I'll have to get used to:

So for the past couple years I've been wanting to adapt this book called "Meg." It's about a prehistoric shark that resurfaces and kills a bunch of people, all the while these scientists try and figure out how to stop it. Sounds cool right? I always liked the book and recently I've come up with some good ideas on how to translate it to a script.

So tonight I figured I'd go ahead and e-mail the author of the book and get his permission to draft a script and send it to him for approval. Seemed like a good idea at first. I keep up with the industry as best I can and I have yet to read about a greenlight for this picture or even an option to buy the screenplay. So I write this formal/personal email to this guy hoping he'll respond. It's too early to tell you about his response cause I did it like an hour ago.

I figured I'd research the book more to see if I could find anything of it becoming a movie, and much to my chagrin, I came across a site dedicated to the making of the film. A screenplay's been sold and it's in production, to be released in 2007. Now, I wasn't so much surprised to come across this information, but I do feel pretty damn stupid for emailing this guy and talking to him as if I knew my shit, and knew that they may need a script. A let down at my own hands.

On the bright side:
I read some convincing information about a sequel to the greatest slasher film ever made "Sleepaway Camp." If you haven't seen it, you need to ASAP. This guy, Robert Hiltzik, made it as his student film in NY for around $300,000 or so. It's one of those "I wish I thought of that" flicks, just a perfect horror movie.

Anyway, I read on fangoria and upcominghorrormovies.com that a sequel is supposed to be rushed to come out this Halloween, but at the very least early next year. The beauty of it, they went back and reshot 14 scenes to make them gorier. That's what I call dedication. The original director is returning, as are 2 of the original main characters. There were 2 sequels released in the 80's, but the new trend of sequels is to make them as if the shitty ones never happened (see Superman Returns). I don't really understand their theory here because the 2 sequels were awesome, but I could care less as long as I'm getting more Sleepaway Camp!
